Three Wheeled Buggies
Three-wheeled buggies are great for walking around the neighborhood or for jogging. Their compact design allows them to be maneuvered easily even in tight areas.
For a smooth ride, opt for a pram that has air-filled tyres. Also, look for models with 360deg front swivel wheels. However, they are prone to punctures so be prepared with a repair kit.
Frame made of sturdy material
The latest figures have been released showing that the three-wheeled buggie - that noughties symbol of more money than sanity - is in steep decline. They are being replaced by four-wheelers which can be more versatile in terrain, while still looking swanky and being easy to push.
The bigger the wheels are the better your buggy will cope with bumpy and uneven pavements. The larger wheels on both the front and back makes it much easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or over difficult terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy out with a newborn and 3 year old and found that it was able to withstand cobbles, grass rough roads, dirt tracks, and kerbs. Kath wrote "it feels sturdy to push and very solid when you're on rough terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable so need occasional pumping) offer built-in suspension that was very comfortable for my children.
Another thing to take into consideration is the size of the seat and shape. It is important for the seat to be large enough for your child to feel comfortable and allow them to lie down. Some three-wheel buggies offer a lie-flat option that allows your child to lie flat and face you, while other buggies only allow a parent-facing one.
An excellent option for taking on off-road and muddy walks is the Roma Atlas. This buggy can be used as a single unit from birth and then adapts to take two children when your family grows. It is suitable for infants and toddlers from age four and comes with a bumper bar, raincover, an improved 5-point harness, and a large cushioned seat unit. Storage options are also a plus with a large basket and zip pockets on the hood and an extra pouch at the rear of seat unit.
Larger wheels
Larger wheels means that your buggy will be more stable on uneven terrain, which is ideal for off-road buggies. In addition, they allow you to maneuver the pushchair through narrow spaces. Certain three-wheeled buggies have wheels that swivel on the front, which aid in maneuvering around tight corners. Others are designed to run and have fixed wheels that lock to provide increased speed and stability. This also helps in the event that you hit a tree root or stray road, as the front wheel will rise up slightly to prevent you from hitting it.
A majority of 3 wheel pushchairs come with air-filled tyres. This means they can handle different terrains and are more flexible than four wheelers. They're also lighter. However, they're susceptible to punctures, so you'll need to have a repair kit, spare tube and pump handy.
Our top 3-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. These buggies, according to MFM's Kath, have larger wheels which according to her "perform well on gravel roads, grass and market town cobbles" and are able to move up and down kerbs. They also have a suspension system that, in her words "smoothes out bumps extremely effectively".
Buggies with larger wheels can be quite wide and they may be a challenge to fit in tight spaces. This is an issue if you're using it as a jogger or to maneuver through doorways that are narrow when you're out and out and about. Most models come with compact folding options that permit you to take off the front wheels and store them in a more compact manner.
Easy to Manoeuvre
One of the major advantages to a three-wheeled buggy is that it is much easier to maneuver especially with a child in tow. The way in which they are built means that the front wheels rotate on a dime and are really maneuverable which makes them perfect for difficult terrains like cobbles, parks and bumpy pavements as well as dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tried a 3-wheeler with her infant and toddler and wrote: "The Terrain was a pleasure to maneuver over tough terrain and the swivel front wheel particularly useful. I was also awed by how well it dealt with bumps, particularly when using the brake operated by hand. I found it extremely steady when I was driving downhill or over uneven terrain."
The only drawback to this great maneuverability is that the 3 wheel buggy's larger wheels do sometimes mean it has to be difficult to maneuver in tight spaces - something to consider especially if you live in a metropolitan area. If this is a concern then a 4-wheeler might be a better choice for you.

Comfort
A 3-wheel buggy offers the most maneuverability and performance when going off road. This kind of buggy is easy to steer and turn in a flash thanks to its perfect geometry engineering, weight, and distribution.
The Sport's clever design places the sling seat made of fabric inside the frame, instead of on top like modular seats. This means it has a lower center of gravity which means it's easier to push, has a less weighty curb-pop (you won't need to exert much effort to push the buggy's nose over the curb), and offers greater stability and balance. With its massive 16'' rear wheels with lockable swivel wheels on the front and tyres with air that only require occasional pumping for smooth, bump-free rides over rough terrain and a smoother and more comfortable jog.
The only stroller in our range that comes with a parent-facing seat which can also accommodate an infant car seat or carrycot, you are able to future-proof your family to enjoy every adventure - from the very first day, and for years to come!
Kath the MFM reviewer, also loved the spaciousness of this buggy. There's a nimble large, spacious basket that's surprising spacious for a vehicle that's this big. Additionally, there's a handy pouch on the back seat unit, and 2 smaller mesh pockets under the hood, where you can keep your keys and phone.
